Tapita Samson- Rarotonga
Tapita Vina Samson is a fierce co-owner of TMS FITNESS, a group training facility that has been empowering women and girls in the health and fitness industry for over seven years. Samson believes in the transformative power of sports and fitness and sees herself as a catalyst for change in the industry. She has embarked on the Pacific Women in Sports Leadership Program, aiming to broaden her skills and knowledge of the industry and create a more inclusive environment for women and girls in sports and fitness.
Samson envisions returning home to implement a mentorship and leadership development program tailored to the needs of women and girls in her country. Through collaboration with local sports organisations, schools, and community leaders, she aims to create partnerships that empower women by building their skills, confidence, and sense of belonging in the sporting community. The program will incorporate leadership training, skill development, and personal growth, fostering a supportive network that nurtures their potential.
Overcoming cultural norms, limited resources, and resistance to change will be a challenge, but Samson is committed to creating positive outcomes for women and girls in sport and physical activity. She plans to adopt a culturally sensitive approach that considers local traditions and values and emphasises the importance of education and awareness to address any resistance to change.
Samson’s inspirational journey towards empowering women in the fitness industry can be followed on her Instagram and Facebook profiles. Her posts will provide insight into her journey, highlighting the positive impact of gender equality in sports and physical activity, and encouraging readers to join her quest for a more inclusive and supportive sporting community.
