Women in Sport Aotearoa Ngā Wāhine Hākinakina o Aotearoa is excited to announce the pilot of its Pacific Women’s Sports Leadership Programme in 2023,  delivered in partnership with Pasifika SiS Sisters in Sport. Based on the Global Sport Mentoring programme, this leadership programme aims to empower emerging female leaders from four Pacific Island nations through mentorship and cultural exchange. The programme is made possible through investment and partnerships with the US State Department and the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

This programme is open to female leaders residing in either Fiji, Samoa, Cook Islands or Tonga.

Purpose

This programme is open to emerging female leaders in sport, physical activity, dance, and traditional physical activities in Fiji, Samoa, Cook Islands, and Tonga. The target participant will be involved in sport, physical activity, dance, and traditional physical activities in one of the four Pacific nations either in a volunteer or paid capacity. Participants should demonstrate a passion for girls and women, contributing to system change and positive outcomes, and have already worked or volunteered within this space for at least 5 years.

Overview

The programme dates are Monday 21 August-Friday 8 September 2023. Participants will arrive the day before and leave the day after the programme concludes.

This is a three-week programme based in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland, New Zealand. The first week focuses on leadership development. For the two subsequent weeks, each participant will be mentored by a host organisation, immersing themselves in their work culture and programs. During this time, the participant will create a project to implement in their home country. Before returning home, all participants will spend a final day together, sharing their learning and action plans.

This programme is open to all female leaders residing in either Fiji, Samoa, Cook Islands or Tonga.

Participants will be selected in consultation between Women in Sport Aotearoa and the funding partners. The programme will cover all participant costs relating to travel, accommodation, airport transfers, meals and catering over the three weeks.

Host Organisations

Women in Sport Aotearoa is seeking host organisations in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland to host successful participants.

The programme will support a maximum of ten emerging female leaders from the listed Pacific Island nations. It will take place across a three-week itinerary including a residential and hosted work experience in Auckland. Host organisations will be selected from Tāmaki Makaurau only and will need to have an office location accessible by transport services. The hosted work experience programme will run between Monday 28th August and Wednesday 6th September.
