VIEW OUR 2023 PACIFIC LEADERS HERE

Women in Sport Aotearoa Ngā Wāhine Hākinakina o Aotearoa delivered a pilot of its Pacific Women’s Sports Leadership Programme in 2023, delivered in partnership with Pasifika SiS Sisters in Sport. Based on the Global Sport Mentoring programme, this leadership programme aims to empower emerging female leaders from four Pacific Island nations through mentorship and cultural exchange. The programme is made possible through investment and partnerships with the US State Department and the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Purpose

This programme is developed to support emerging female leaders in sport, physical activity, dance, and traditional physical activities in Fiji, Samoa, Cook Islands, and Tonga. The selected participants are already involved in sport, physical activity, dance, and traditional physical activities in either a volunteer or paid capacity. Participants demonstrate a passion for girls and women and a desire to advance system change and positive outcomes in their home nations.

Overview

The pilot programme ran from Monday 21 August-Friday 8 September 2023. It is a three-week programme based in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland, New Zealand. The first week focuses on leadership development. For the two subsequent weeks, each participant will be mentored by a host organisation, immersing themselves in their work culture and programs. During the three weeks, the participant will create a project to implement in their home country. Before returning home, all participants spend a final day together, sharing their learning and action plans.
