Dale Sauqaqa – Fiji

Dale Wise Sauqaqa is a proud mother of four sons, a Sergeant in the Fiji Police Force, and a champion basketball player with over 21 years of experience representing Fiji. Her dedication to service began at the age of 16 when she first played for Fiji’s National Women’s Basketball team. She has captained over half of her tours and coached the national women’s Under 19 team in 2014. Dale’s love for basketball extends beyond the court as she has mobilized her network to sponsor uniforms for young players in the community, launching the Bombers Club u10 team.

Dale’s passion for sports stems from her belief that young girls and boys can gain so much from participating in sports. She understands firsthand the transformative power of sports, having been afforded opportunities to travel and play basketball in the United States as a young girl from a low-income single-mother household. To empower the girls in her community, Dale plans to launch a basketball league and program for girls, women, and master’s players. Through this initiative, she aims not only to identify talent and provide opportunities for young players but also to mentor and coach them in life on and off the court. With her extensive network of successful former players, Dale hopes to give these girls the chance to dream beyond Fiji by pursuing basketball scholarships overseas.

Dale’s leadership and commitment to empowering women extend beyond sports. She plans to use her participation in the leadership program to grow as a woman in the workplace and community and advance her knowledge and skills. Dale hopes to influence positive change, both personally and for the young women officers she works with, by learning from mentors and coaches in the program. Her ultimate goal is to use her increased knowledge and confidence to reach out even more effectively to the community.
