On Friday 18 October 2019, the Foundation Members of Women in Sport Aotearoa, Ngā Wāhine Hākinakina o Aotearoa gathered in Auckland for the Annual General Meeting and the presentation of the Annual Report 2018-19.
The past 12 months has seen an extraordinary period of growth and achievement for Women in Sport Aotearoa, as we work toward our vision to see “women and girls valued, visible and influential in sport”. With over one billion people watching the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in June and the growing success of female leagues in AFL, Rugby League plus more, WISPA has developed against a backdrop of enormous momentum for women in sport, globally.
Here in New Zealand, the launch of the government ‘Women & Girls in Sport and Active Recreation’ strategy last October has seen change develop very quickly across the sector and our society. In parallel, Women in Sport Aotearoa continues to successfully the host the Secretariat for the International Working Group (IWG) on Women & Sport on behalf of New Zealand and continues to prepare to stage the 8th IWG World Conference in May 2022.
