Women in Sport Aotearoa is delighted to partner up with the Global Institute of Sport, driving forward the opportunities available for future female leaders of the sports industry.

The new partnership will bring many benefits to both organisations, as well as students of GIS.

Future events, networking opportunities and experiences will be granted to progress female involvement in the sports industry across New Zealand.

With these shared values, GIS and Women in Sport Aotearoa are both pleased to launch a scholarship ahead of the 2024-25 academic year.

The GIS Inspirational Women in Sport Scholarship, in partnership with Women in Sport Aotearoa, could bring many benefits to the successful applicant.

The scholarship is aimed at a female GIS applicant on any of our Master’s degree courses, hoping to further their career in sports administration, marketing, media or coaching within New Zealand.

An ideal applicant would also hope to enhance opportunities for the next generation of female leaders of the global sports industry.

Some of the benefits of the scholarship include:

  • 15 per cent (approximately NZ$3,750) towards tuition fees
  • Applied research project on a Women in Sport Aotearoa challenge
  • Mentorship with a Women in Sport Aotearoa board member
  • Work experience through Women in Sport Aotearoa
  • Free access to a GIS Global Sports Summit

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must be a New Zealand-based female student holding an offer for a GIS Master’s degree course, starting in September 2024, with at least three months experience in sport.

Nicky van den Bos, CEO of Women in Sport Aotearoa, spoke about how delighted she is to have formed a partnership with the Global Institute of Sport.

“Women in Sport Aotearoa is delighted to be partnering with highly esteemed international education provider, the Global Institute of Sport,” she said.

“We recognise both the opportunity and extensive networks that partnering with GIS can provide here to Aotearoa, our organisation and supporters, but ultimately towards providing one-of-a-kind experiences for our female leaders in sport and physical activity.

“WISPA is excited to team up with GIS for a scholarship initiative, available to females here in Aotearoa wishing to further their education to advance their executive careers in sports leadership.

“The successful candidate will share in both our passion and purpose to be Aotearoa’s champion for gender equity in sport and physical activity through partnering with WISPA on a key research initiative and work experience to support this into practical action.”
