Women + Girls Summit

About the Women + Girls Summit

The Sport NZ Women + Girls Summit Summit is a series of three (2019-2021) annually staged events in which Sport NZ contracted Women in Sport Aotearoa (WISPA) and The SHIFT Foundation (SHIFT) to deliver under the auspices of the government Women and Girls in Sport and Active Recreation strategy. These events were developed off the back of a highly successful ‘She Moves’ conference which WISPA and SHIFT delivered in partnership in Wellington in 2017.

The Summit is designed for those who aspire to or are currently working towards delivering more equal opportunities for women and girls to improve their physical activity and wellbeing in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

All three events culminate in New Zealand’s hosting of the 8th IWG World Conference on Women & Sport, from 14-17 November 2022 and is one of the 24 commitments made by Sport NZ in response to the Government’s strategy.

Past Events

2021

The Sport NZ Women and Girls Summit 2021 was a highly successful event, which had to pivot the delivery model within weeks of production of the event due to an outbreak of the delta variant of COVID-19 in New Zealand.

The 2021 Summit took place on a single day, 29 September 2021 with sessions varying in delivery mode including keynote speakers, panels, workshops, networking, and presentations.

Five regional events were planned for across the motu (country) with a series of partners, however, due to COVID-19 restrictions coming into place in the weeks prior, in consultation with our regional partners, these had to be cancelled.

Satellite events (x6) were able to be delivered in a few areas due to smaller numbers being able to gather.

While the regional events were affected by the delta outbreak, due to the detailed planning from the beginning including the various scenarios that were considered, the change in delivery was able to be shifted smoothly and was ultimately a factor in the success of the 2021 event.

A total of 658 delegates attended the virtual event, with 184 attending satellites events, totalling 842.

2021 Attendees, post-event survey
