WEEK 6: Tracey Prince-Puketapu

This week we welcomed Tracey Prince Puketapu, Acting CEO, Recreation Aotearoa

13.30 – 14.15 pm NZT, Friday 15 May 2020

Lockdown has brought recreation to an unprecedented standstill over the past few weeks, with people limited to only the activities they can do at home or in their immediate neighbourhoods. Popular outdoor activities including surfing, boating, swimming, hiking, fishing and hunting were all restricted in New Zealand under Level 4, with a slight loosening in Level 3. The public were advised not to undertake any activity that had the potential for risk, to prevent pressure on emergency services and hospitals already bracing themselves for COVID-19. Recreation Aotearoa is New Zealand’s leadership body for the recreation sector, representing all professionals in the industry. It works to ’empower our members to deliver the quality Recreation experiences, places and facilities, that fuel a more active, healthy and connected New Zealand.’ As New Zealand drops to Level 2, its a timely moment to catch-up with Tracey Prince-Puketapu, to understand the impact of COVID-19. She will talk about helping people to get moving again and how social distancing rules will continue to impact freedom of choice and movement.

Tracey Prince-Puketapu has been in the Recreation Industry for over 18 years in various roles including lifeguard, facility manager and for the past 7 years, as Aquatics Programme Manager at Recreation Aotearoa. In her current role as Acting CEO Tracey is endeavouring to provide leadership for her team and the industry through the challenging time presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. She is keen to explore the opportunities for the recreation sector that are emerging through COVID-19. In her spare time Tracey loves off-road running and generally spending time outdoors recreating in the sunny capital of New Zealand.
